Walmart #5300 (Pre-Remodel to Post-Remodel) - Gibsonton, FL
In this GTB Retail blog post, we are going to turn back time to Walmart #5300's pre-remodel in late 2017 and early 2018, along with remodeling and the finished product!
Walmart #5300
9205 Gibsonton Drive, Gibsonton, FL
This Walmart store opened in 2006 along with the Black Decor 1.0 interior.
Part 1: Pre-Remodel (from 2017)
Walmart's current exterior signage, along with the Project Impact colors of brown and tan.
Cross here for grocery! The Impact 3.0 interior was added in 2013 to replace the previous 2006 version of Black Decor.
Section formerly known as Food Center from 2006 to 2013, and Market from 2013 to 2018.
This photo was taken on a Black Friday afternoon in 2017, so all of the crowds were gone. (Black Friday started at around 5am on this day)
Because this store follows a typical 2000's Walmart layout, produce is the first fresh department after you enter through grocery.
Walmart's deli department.
Aisles A10 to A33 are a part of the grocery department, with frozen foods on aisles A28 to A32. This store has 17 aisles in total if you count the two aisles (example: A20/A21) as one.
The store's dairy department, as seen from the last aisle (A33)
Walmart's pharmacy department, as seen from the end of an aisle (zoomed in).
Checkout lane 5, complete with an original Wal-Mart Black Decor 1.0 light and frame!
Former checkouts 18 to 21, the new self checkouts now take up these lanes, decreasing the total checkout count to 14.
Walmart's Money Center. This is where you can get a GreenDot card or send money from this Walmart to another Walmart in the United States.
Store 5300 likes to hide possible original decor remnants in the garden center, but let's find out!
Original 2006 Wal-Mart interior! This would have been from the garden center. Later removed after the 2018 remodel, but the original Speedy Checkout signs remain in the garden center's checkout lanes!
Even though that the garden center is considered a part of the main store, I am calling it separate, because of the ceiling.
Some more Black Decor 1.0 labels remained on these doors until 2018!
Now let's go to the store's remodel!
Part 2: Store Remodeling (from 2/27/2018)
Exciting things are on the way in this remodel picture from 2018, the orange paint with Pickup text was added in 2016.
Exciting things are on the way in this remodel picture from 2018, the orange paint with Pickup text was added in 2016.
One more picture of the grocery entrance before the repainting begins!
Walmart uses two sets of enter doors consolidated into one with the words Enter and Exit.
This produce department is similar to what we saw last time, except that the walls are now painted white for the remodel.
Aisles A16/A17 are home to groceries.
Aisles A26 to A33 are seen to the left of the sale displays, along with other departments to the right of the displays. There used to be text that said "Save money. Live better." above the back doors.
No more deli and bakery signs for now! Due to the repainted walls, signs that were put on those walls were removed to not interfere with the wet paint.
The 10 self checkouts in this section were previously checkouts 18 to 21 before remodeling started.
This is the store's entrance to the garden center, sans the regular signs.
Due to the reconstruction of the main pharmacy, Walmart put in a temporary unit for the pharmacists. The word Pharmacy was from the main signage.
Walmart's Pickup tower construction zone. This is used to pick up orders from Walmart.com. The tower is 15 feet tall!
The back of checkouts 11 to 14 (former 14 to 18).
Thank you for shopping at Walmart! The McDonald's restaurant is to the left of the entrance corridor.
Because we are done with February 2018 pictures, let's exit and head on over to March 2018!
3/12/2018: "Repainting in progress. Do not touch the signs". The Home & Pharmacy entrance is to the right of the Walmart logo.
Because we are in March 2018, let's enter the store to see the current remodeling status!
This is the store's electronics department. Due to the remodel, all wall signs have been removed.
Grocery aisles A26/A27 are home to frozen foods.
If you go through the other side of grocery, then the aisle numbers start to decrease as you are heading toward produce.
Do you notice the differences in this picture as compared to the previous one? New light fixtures (LED)! Even though that there are no signs, the deli and bakery are a part of this area.
The Pickup tower, as seen on it's opening day (3/12/2018).
This sign says Walmart, but what's missing? The word Pharmacy! This reminds me of a Albertsons that is now vacant in Brandon.
Goodbye remodel! Let's jump over to April 2018 for the finished product!
New blue and gray paint indicate a full remodel! But what is on the inside? Let's find out...
2013 Enter decals indicate that this remodel was 95% complete. Peeking through these doors, we can see Black Decor 2.2!
Produce departments in this store are seen to the left after entry. Signage for meat is seen in the background.
A newer Walmart checkout sign, replacing the ones from 2006 when this store opened. Checkout 13 is now checkout 10.
Previously called customer service, the remodel updated the department to Walmart Services.
Now exiting through the grocery side doors.
Part 3: Post-Remodel
After 2 months of preparation, the remodel was complete in late April 2018 to bring this store into the current interior.
The newer (and bigger) Walmart logo, as seen on the center of the store. The remodel is also the return of the 9205 (address)!
Signs for pickup, the liquor store, and grocery entrances appear here.
Close-up of the new entrance facade, as seen from grocery. The word grocery is back in it's original spot from 2006!
Welcome, enter here. It's the 2.2 decor again, but complete!
Store maps were introduced in 2016 to new and remodeled Walmart locations. This is one of them.
Produce, the grocery aisles, and clothing departments appear here. The remodel also includes new category and directory signs.
Aisle F29, along with the rest of the Home Office department.
The entertainment department is located in the back of the store, now with new signage. Restrooms now take up the former pickup area.
Furniture, to home office, to the auto center can all be found in this one aisle by following the overhead signs!
One section has home decor, and the other is called Celebrations!
This aisle takes you to the pharmacy entrance.
Clearance aisle time! Everything from $20 to $3 and under can be found here.
Packaged Deli is also known as lunch meat. This was found at the other side of grocery.
Meat and seafood, as seen before the sign refresh in late 2018. Black Decor 2.2 can be found in this Walmart.
Signage for grocery aisles A9 to A3, along with the grocery exit doors.
A part of the remodel included an upgrade to the store's Walmart Pharmacy by adding a new consultation room.
Checkouts 10 to 14, as seen during closure. This also gives you an example of Walmart!
Checkout lane 7, now with the Walmart "TradeSpark"!
As seen from the end of the main checkouts, is the store's vision center. Lights off mean closed!
Updated signage for deli and bakery departments. Some items were moved during the remodel process, but most of the departments remain the same.
An advertisement for Pickup now takes up the space of the former thank you sign. Straight ahead are the exit doors.
A photo with the exit doors means that our remodel tour of Walmart #5300 is now complete!
This store also made recent headlines. One of them was a 31 year old that was attempting to bring a weapon inside this store, and another was bringing a golf cart into this same Walmart.
Awesome find with that décor remnant in the garden center, prior to the remodel! Also neat to see the Meat & Poultry sign for BD2.2. I wasn't sure if any of those actually existed, since the new style of signage for that department that's been rolled out to all Walmart stores was introduced around the same time as that décor package. I thought it may have been the default style, but appears it wasn't - at least briefly, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat photo with the Meat sign was taken in April 2018, before the updated signage was introduced in October 2018.
