Malfunction Junction is home to accidents, slow traffic, and even a standstill! You just can't avoid I-4 traffic on the weekdays, but you can use Malfunction Junction every day! The times where I-4 traffic flows smoothly from Malfunction Junction is on Saturdays and Sundays.



I-275 NORTH:


The first sign showing I-4 is located on exit 41A for Dale Mabry Highway. Use the 4 left lanes for north I-275.


Exit 45B for I-4 East is in 3 1/4 miles. Exits 42 and 44 are shown on this sign, located on top of I-4.


2.5 miles until the exit to I-4 East from I-275 North.


Exit 45B is in 2 miles. The exit for Downtown Tampa is in 1 mile.


Use the middle lane for exit 45B for I-4 or the left 2 lanes for I-275 North.


Heading to Ybor City or Port Tampa Bay? Use exit 45B and then take exits 1 or 2.


The right 3 lanes are for the I-4 exit (45B). For exits 46B to 59, use the left 2 lanes for I-275 North.


The right lane ends in 1400 feet, so merge to the left after the I-4 exit!

EXITS 1 TO 3 ON I-4 EAST:


1 mile until exit 2. All trucks accessing Port Tampa Bay must use exit 2, because no trucks are allowed on 21st or 22nd streets.


Exit 1 for 21st St/22nd St is in 1/4 mile. No trucks are allowed on 21st and 22nd streets. For truck drivers who want to access the port, use exit 2, which is in 3/4 mile.


Use exit 1 on I-4 for Ybor City (a historic district) and for the Channelside Cruise Ships. A tourist info center can be accessed by using exit 1, and making a right turn at 21st Street and Palm Avenue. Afterwards, make a left turn at 15th Street, and follow all tourist info signs. The final left turn is at 9th Avenue.


Final opportunity for exit 1. Exit 2 for SR 618 Toll East is in 0.5 miles.


As seen in this arrow per lane sign, use the left lane for exit 2, or the right lanes for I-4 East.


All trucks that are accessing the port must exit here and follow all truck route signs. Exit 2 takes you through a toll booth and you can use 22nd Street or westbound SR 618.


Exit 3 is in 1 mile. The exit is on your left, as indicated by the yellow sign.


0.5 miles until the Columbus Dr/50th Street exit. Notice the arrow per lane (APL) sign. Keep right for I-4 East.


Final opportunity for exit 3. Use this exit if you want to go to Busch Gardens, located on the corner of McKinley Drive and Busch Blvd.
